Ultra-long distances, ambitious goals, a lot of training and the thrill of pushing their limits during long runs: the GORE RUNNING WEAR® athletes run their trails and roads with a fiery passion. Mastering even the most extreme situations during competitions and training, these athletes have high demands concerning their running gear, which they truly put through its paces. They provide the Gore product managers and designers with valuable feedback, allowing them to improve the products continuously.
The equipment of the GORE RUNNING WEAR® athletes is constantly in use – in just one training week, they might well clock up 200 kilometres.
Our runner Florian Neuschwander certainly does. His trademark moustache and seventies hairdo have helped him become a true cult athlete. No challenge is too hard for him: he masters horizontal runs as well as vertical ones, happily powering across mountain terrains and along urban trails.
He intends to break a record at the Paris marathon in April. For his training, he relies especially on the products from the GORE RUNNING WEAR® FUSION collection: “The FUSION tank top is my absolute favourite. Super lightweight. Comfortable. No irritating seams. A top top! I also love the FUSION Windstopper Active Shell Jacket – it is really lightweight and folds up small enough to fit into my trouser pockets. It is perfect for long runs and trail tours when the weather is changeable.”
Ultra-trail runner Daniel Jung agrees: the FUSION line is one of his clear favourites, too. This year, his competition schedule is leaving even his team colleagues wide-eyed, as he sets out to cover crazy distances of up to 170 km with 10,000 metres of elevation gain: Trans Gran Canaria, Transvulcania, Madeira Island Ultra, Lavaredo Ultra, Eiger Ultra, Südtirol Ultra Skyrace, Ultra Trail Atlas Toubkal and, last but not least, the trail to end all trails: the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc in France. Jung, who hails from the south of Tyrol, already scored a spot on the winner’s rostrum at the first Ultra-Trail World Tour race in Hong Kong in early January. Despite his ambitious goals, he has a laid-back attitude toward achievement: “I think that many runners train too much rather than too little. Instead, I consider the races themselves to be long-distance training routes in their own right. This is only possible with the right equipment, however. It needs to be lightweight and comfortable. My absolute favourite among training jackets is the ONE GORE-TEX® ACTIVE RUN Jacket with its SHAKEDRY™ product technology. I can barely feel it on me, but it protects me perfectly. I never train without it.”
The exceptionally talented Lisa Mehl has already qualified as one of the elite athletes to participate in this year’s Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, too. Her product of choice is the ONE LADY GORE-TEX® SHAKEDRY™ Running Jacket, which can simply be shaken dry after a downpour. She also trusts in the functional MYTHOS LADY collection, which has been developed and designed using high-tech functional materials for different weather conditions and ensures high visibility even in poor light.
