Introducing the Winners

Congrats to Florian and Marcel! They each submitted inspiring photos on Instagram, showing just how they could use the ONE GORE-TEX® Active Jacket to go #IntoTheElements. We talked to them about their experience with their new jackets, which they tested in the rain and the cold. Here’s what they had to say:

Hi Marcel. Tell us a little about yourself, your work and your passion.

I live in The Netherlands. I am a tax advisor and a passionate runner. But I also like to cycle (road and offroad). In August 2013, I participated in the Otztaler Cycle Marathon, a race through the Alps of Austria and Italy of 238 km, through four Alps and +5,500 HM’s. That day it rained and snowed from the start at 7AM till 2 PM, and it was very, very cold. There were over 2,500 cyclists who started that day, but less than 1,500 finished the race. I won the jacket because of the photo taken in this race!

Are you training right now? How can the ONE GORE-TEX® Active Run Jacket assist you as you train or pursue your passion?

At this moment, I am training for the Rotterdam Marathon, where I want to run my first sub 3-hour marathon. My PB is 3.04.57. I run 90-100km a week and training is going very well. As it is winter, the weather can be cold and wet. But I don’t want to skip a training session due to the weather. So the ONE GORE-TEX® Active Jacket keeps me dry so I can keep on running comfortably. I really appreciate that!

What was your first impression of the jacket when you received it?

My first impression was: WOW! It’s an extraordinary jacket, and it is very, very lightweight. The fabric feels smooth. When wearing the hood, the jacket closes tightly so no water gets in on my neck. I really like that.

What do your friends think of this jacket? (Are they jealous?)

Of course they are jealous! The jacket has a special appearance, and looks very professional. Unfortunately, the jacket is not available yet in the BeNeLux, so I think I am one of the first in The Netherlands wearing the ONE GORE-TEX® Active Jacket. This makes me feel proud!

When you wore it on a run what stood out as its best feature?

It’s very lightweight–that’s what I like most of the jacket. I own two GORE RUNNING WEAR® jackets already, one GORE-TEX®  and one WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shell jacket (both of the Mythos 2.0 line), but none of those feels as comfortable when running as the ONE GORE-TEX® Active Jacket. I hardly feel the jacket, but it still keeps me dry and warm. And it’s very breathable. The fit is great–it fits me very well. It’s by far the best running jacket I have ever had.

How will this jacket help you go #IntoTheElements uninhibited?

For me, this jacket is the ultimate proof of the GORE RUNNING WEAR® statement “Guaranteed to keep you dry!” Whatever the weather is like, I can always go out to run as I know the jacket will keep me dry, warm–so I can train comfortably. That is very important for someone who is running +300 kms a month, as I don’t want to skip a training for bad weather. Thank you GORE RUNNING WEAR® for the opportunity!

Meet Flo

Hey Flo. Tell us a little about yourself, your work, and your passion.

So my name is Flo, I work as a video editor and I always thought, running is the most boring thing of all. This all changed when I moved close to the mountains to Salzburg, Austria. So two years ago I started running – and I ran a lot. Somehow it fit, and not only 5 to 10 km, but 20 to 50 km and longer, plus elevation. The more the merrier!

I couldn’t think of anything better than getting up early to go for a run – and I usually hate getting up early. Then, I couldn’t think of anything better than getting out of work to go for a second run.

Are you training right now? How can the jacket assist you as you train or pursue your passion?

Right now I’m training for my first 100k run. As I have a training plan, I need to go out for my runs, no matter how bad the weather is. And that’s the point where the ONE GORE-TEX® Active Jacket helps a lot.

What was your first impression of the jacket when you received it?

I think the first impression was that it was super light and felt a bit fragile. But after the first run, I totally fell in love with it. You don’t even feel it.

What do your friends think of this jacket?

I think they are jealous :D Because when the weather is really bad and we go out for a run, I’m always the one who comes home dry ;)

When you wore it on a run what stood out as its best feature?

Beside the water resistance, I was very surprised by the breathability. I’m a heavy sweater – and usually it’s soaking wet under all these plastic rain jackets. Not with this one.

Does the “shake dry surface” stand up to the rain?

I wore it now for a short 10k run through the rain, for some bike rides, and for a long 30k run and I was always dry – so I would say, yes, it stands up the rain ☺

How will this jacket help you go #IntoTheElements uninhibited?

I can just get out and live my passion. If it’s a run or a bike ride, I don’t need to think about the weather–just where I want to go and that’s the best thing.
